Animated Title Sequence for How To Video
The Guidelines
For this assignment, we were asked create an animated title sequence for a How To video made for another class. This title sequence would be based off of the skill we would be demonstrating in our How To video. The animation was required to be exactly thirty seconds long.
Planning
I experienced a lot of difficulties trying to come up with a storyboard for this animation. It took awhile before I was able to figure out what direction I wanted to move in. Initially, I wanted to include a lot complex transitions. However, I didn’t like the flow or pacing. I ultimately decided to spend more time focusing on slower transitions through camera movement.
Animation Process
Vibe and Inspiration
The music I had chosen for my title sequence reminded me of Scooby Doo Where Are You? I ended up drawing heavy inspiration in color pallet and other stylistic choices from Scooby Doo and other cartoons from the 1960s and 1970s.
Operating in 3D Space
Because of the transitions I wanted to use relied on the camera moving, I chose to create my title sequence in After Effects’ 3D space. This allowed me to add more depth to my animation as well as to move the camera freely.
Final Product
Final Conclusion
Ultimately even though I am happy with the finished product, I wish I had been able to finalize an idea earlier on. That way I would’ve been able to really take my time with the smaller details of the animation.
